Yosemite - 2002 Wolf Fire

"On July 11, 2002, lightning struck a tree and started a fire near the White Wolf area of Yosemite National Park.  The ecology of the red fir and lodgepole pine that dominate the area requires periodic fire" (http://www.nps.gov/fire/public/pub_firestories2002.cfm). This fire was managed for the benefit of the resource and reducing future fire danger.  Approximately 950 acres were affected.  Over 500 people participated in daily fire ecology walks with firefighters as a way of understanding the role of fire in this National Park.
